I love New Year's at the cabin! This year our Christmas Olympics got pushed back, so we did them while we waited for midnight. The day was spent making yummy food, playing games, and pre-game napping. Grandma and Papa added twister this year and a new balloon race. I was shocked that Nick and Xander stayed up partying and didn't go to bed till I forced them at 12:30. We missed Kallie this year!

New Year's Eve 2024
Little Blessings
Yesterday Christopher and I headed down to Heber for a little lunch date. We hardly ever do this, so I felt really special and excited for some one on one time. As we were leaving Timberlakes, the suburban acted like the tire had gone flat. Christopher pulled off the side of the road, reported that the tire was not flat, but there was definitely something wrong. We were just across the road from a pull out area, so we hobbled the car to that area - where we discovered the tire had separated from the axel. Not ideal. Thankfully we had the prius keys in our possession, we were close to Timberlakes, so Christopher just walked back and got the prius. As I sat in the warm suburban, I started really thinking about this little event and how many ways Heavenly Father had blessed us with the timing, location, and all the moving parts of this breakdown.
1. We didn't breakdown on the mountain. That would have been a nightmare and I have no idea how we would have safely gotten the car off the mountain.
2. We had just reached cell phone service.
3. We had the prius at the base of the hill AND we brought the keys because we had to update the tags for security.
4. We were in walking distance back to the parking area.
5. We broke down across the street from a pull out which mean we weren't in a scary spot (blind curve) of the road.
6. It was just me and Christopher. We had planned to go down to SLC on Saturday, but decided not to because of the weather. Had we gone, not only would we have had a full car with all the kids, but we would've been in the middle of a snow storm and everything is closed on a Saturday.
7. We went on our little date. We normally don't leave the cabin, and if we hadn't the next time we would've driven the suburban would be when we were packing up to leave the cabin, which means our car would be loaded to the brim with kids, suitcases, pillows, food, etc.
8. We've had to call our road side assistance 3 times in the last few weeks, so we are well versed in how this all works now!
9. Heber has lots of car repair shops and they get lots of suburbans, older cars, and 4 wheel drive vehicles. This guy knows his stuff!
10. It didn't breakdown on the way to the airport - or when we had left and it was just Ben. We have a cabin full of people who were willing to come and rescue us. Talk about feeling loved and watched over!
So yes, having another car breakdown this week is not fantastic - but honestly I'm just so grateful how it all happened. The only thing I feel is awe that Heavenly Father looked out for us so well. Talk about feeling loved and seen.

Remi and Oaklee Daycare Service
Oaklee and Remi do a great service every time the big family gets together - they provide daycare of all the little kids (Anders, Jackman, Xander, and Nick). the boys love it and so do the girls. They do school with the boys, recess, tests, playtime, story time, and who knows what else! This year they upped their game by providing a report card on how the kids were behaving. I love 8 year olds!
Outside Cabin Fun
This year, the snow at the cabin was incredible! We spent so much time on the snowmobiles that we barely saw the kids during the day. Andrew and Ben spent hours perfecting snowmobile jumps, digging machines out of the snow (though they weren’t always the ones stuck!), and going on countless rides—sometimes with the little boys tagging along. Zack and Reagan were inseparable snow buddies, playing outside for hours on end. Nick and Xander couldn’t get enough of the snowmobile rides, and it took nearly an hour to get them fully bundled up. They’d return from their rides eager for hot chocolate to warm up. The boys also had a blast playing on the back deck, cutting through the snow with plastic knives. All in all, it was such a memorable and fun Christmas at the cabin!
