Nick-isms

I've been posting lots about Xander recently, so I thought I'd take a break and share some fun Nick stories.  He only has one volume setting and one speed setting - loud and running.  He keeps us on our toes and is always into something!

Our power went out a few days ago and Zack ran and got our light up necklaces I had bought for 4th of July.  Nick thought they were the coolest thing he had ever seen and ran around screaming with excitement.  It was adorable - and every picture is blurry because he is never still.

Nick loves to take the top off our ottomans and use them as his personal seats (or jumping trampolines).  I was feeding Xander and Nick went to the library and got all these books and started reading them.  It kept him busy, and quiet, for a good 15 minutes - so I had to document it.

Nick loves to do "cool falls".  He pretty much falls down on purpose and lifts one leg while yelling.  We were playing outside and he kept doing his fun falls.  It was so cute.

I brought Xander's little bed downstairs one day for him to chill on.  I turned around and saw Nick all cuddled up in it laughing hysterically.  He fits perfectly!  We always call him our little cat.  He loves to find tight spaces and worm his way into them.  He also licks people, which I think is gross - I'm hoping that one is a phase that ends soon!

Xander was laying in the bed while Nick was laying on the floor talking to him "hi baby, hi baby, hi baby" while rubbing his head.  Xander still has his hands in fists most the time and Nick loves to give him "booms" with his fist - while yelling "BOOM!"  Nick also loves to cover Xander's face/eyes then quickly move his hand and yell "THERE HE IS!!!".  I love how much he loves this little baby!

And a rare sighting.  Nick sleeping.  Chris and I were just chatting and looked over and realized he had fallen asleep on the couch next to me while holding his chocolate milk.  He looks so innocent and calm when he sleeps!  Heaven knows he is just recharging his battery to be the tornado he is when he wakes up!

Bath Time

Xander's cord finally fell off on Thursday, so it was time for a real bath!  He loved just chilling in the warm water. I dont think he's going to miss those cold sponge baths!  What you don't see in the pictures is mw trying to wrangle nick on the counter doing his best to "help" me give Xander a bath. Today was much easier with Christopher around!

Xander Meets the Kids

Holy cow we have SIX kids!  Introducing Xander to the kids was so sweet.  Nick was so excited to meet the baby and kept pointing out all his body parts, hair!, eyes!, cheek!, hands!, etc so excited to see he had everything he was supposed to have.  I thought he might not take to Xan right away, but man was I wrong!  He was ready to give him kisses, boom his hands, and rub his hair.  It was so sweet!

Xander heads home!

We had a great hospital stay.  I won patient of the day by insisting I get up ASAP.  Apparently there was a little competition with the nurses about which of their patients would be up and walking first.  I was the 11am C-section and was up before the first C-section of the day.  Poor girl, I found out she still wasn't up when I checked out two days later.  Her recovery is going to be horrible!  Dad and I were out walking the halls before my catheter was out - and this recovery has been a breeze (for the most part)

Little man had a little harder start.  He struggled to keep his sugars up and his poor heels were just so sore.  This picture was taken at 3 days old.  Poor kid - you touch his feet and he would just start crying.  He had been poked so many times that they could just squeeze his foot and blood would come out of previous pokes.  It was horrible to watch.  Xander's blood sugar issues delayed our coming home by a few hours, but thankfully the NICU dr. had faith that we could care for him properly and let us go home that evening.

Xander also failed his hearing test the first time.  The gal was nice and came back and was able to get him to pass.  She said some c-section babies fail since they don't get all the liquid squeezed out of them so they have liquid still in their ear canals.  I was so happy to hear he finally passed!

I had gotten dressed to head home in the morning on Thursday - only to be told it might not happen - so we had a few hours to kill.  We hung out and took some photos of this cute boy.

Finally the doctor decided if he passed his sugar test after 3 feedings he could go home!  After feed 3, and he hit the lowest number he could hit and still pass, we threw Mr. Xander in the carseat so fast and headed out of there!  We are so excited to go home and see our kiddos!

Xander loved the car ride home!  He just stared out the window until he finally fell asleep.  I'm glad he got a little rest before we got home.  Heaven knows in our household quiet naps are hard to find!  Next up, meeting the siblings!

Xander Meets Ben and Kallie

Because of COVID restrictions, only kids older than 16 can come visit at the hospital.  Thankfully we had two kids who (kinda) met that requirement!  Ben and Kallie came down and met little Xander man on July 14th.  They were both so surprised how small he was....and how noisy!  Nick was almost 1/2 a pound heavier than Xander and that made a big difference!  Poor Christopher couldn't come in and see the kids meet since we could only have 2 visitors at a time - but I came through and took lots of pictures!

I just can't get over how cute this little guy is!  He is so tiny!
