After a fun-filled day at Disney, we finally returned to our hotel well after midnight. Around 5 a.m., the fire alarm started blaring. At first, I was convinced it was just a kid pulling a prank, and I didn't want to wake up the kids or deal with evacuating. Christopher wanted to follow protocol and leave, but I was exhausted and didn’t want to disrupt our tired kids. After about 10 minutes with no sign of the alarm stopping, I reluctantly agreed that Christopher was probably right, and we should evacuate. We woke up the kids, grabbed the essentials, and headed for the stairs. I complained the whole way down, thinking it was just a false alarm—until we reached the second floor. A man opened a door, and black smoke poured into the stairwell. I guess Christopher was right!
What followed was three hours in the hotel parking lot, watching firefighters in full gear enter and exit. They even had to break the window to the room with an axe! Water was everywhere in the stairwell, and it turned into quite the adventure. Turns out, the AC unit in one room sparked, caught fire, and released black smoke. The hotel handled the situation poorly, offering only an apology. But, at least we got a memorable story out of it! The day ended with a relaxing swim and dinner at Chick-fil-A. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday. :)
