I woke up and saw Zack like this and it made me smile....
Then he said this and it almost made me cry with how sweet it was.....
Zack - "Mom, Can I just look at Nick for a little while?"
I think we are going to do just fine.

Nicolas Wilts - Becomes American
At two days old, Nicholas had his very first trip to London! We had big travel plans for the summer, so we had to get him a passport ASAP. Two days was a bit sooner than I was expecting, but according to the USA Passport website it was going to be iffy to get the passport back in time - so off we went!
It was so nice having Christopher's parents here. His Dad drove us up, dropped us off right at the door, and picked us up an hour later. I was moving pretty slow after just having my 5th C-Section, so this was so appreciated. Grandma was home just in case Andrew was not feeling great again at school.
The whole process went really smooth, and since we were able to get an appointment we were in and out in about an hour. And just like that our little British born baby was an American!
There were lots of other families there with their little ones too. But we won for having the newest. I don't think that was one we wanted to win, but it is what it is. Nick is not a fan of his carseat, so thankfully he slept the whole way there and only got upset near the end of the ride home. I shudder to think how the drive would've been a few weeks later on when he was more aware...or when it was just me and Christopher. There is ZERO parking near the Government building so we would've had to take the train or bus. ugh.
Nick needed a little out of carseat time so we decided to stop for lunch. We found this little gem and had to take a picture!
We made it home in time to get the kids from school. FINALLY Andrew was able to get his first Nick hold. He was over the moon. And how cute is Andrew in his cricket whites?!
Me with my four boys. I have FOUR boys?!?!?!
His birth announcement.
Grandma cuddles are the best!
Oh this baby...here are a few newborn shots...
Day two....was a really loooooonnnnnng day....

Nicholas Wilts - Heading Home
This little boy is so sweet. He was perfect overnight and so calm. There was a baby who just screamed all night long. I was very grateful we had a room with a door - and it wasn't my baby. It is really hard because the moms on the ward weren't allow to have anyone stay with them overnight - and there was only one nurse - so help was very thin. Thankfully Christopher was there with me and able to help out.
In the morning after breakfast (wheatabix cold cereal and toast) and feeding Nick, Christopher headed home to help get kids to school. When he left he went to the nurses station to request they give me my pain medicine. I was in so much pain because they didn't come all night to give me pain relief. I couldn't even turn over.
He hadn't been gone very long when I heard a weird noise coming from the bassinet. I couldn't really turn to see what was going on because it hurt to much, but I felt a sense of panic and turned to see Nick blue. I got up, picked him up, and yelled out to the hallway, "my baby isn't breathing!!!" I knew if i just hit the nurse button no one would come fast enough. Suddenly people showed up out of no where. Someone grabbed Nick and turned him over, another hit the code button, lights went off everywhere with an alarm, and it was just crazy. They got him breathing again and me calmed down. They told me this was very normal and nothing to worry about. Since they don't suction the babies when they are born they tend to throw up the junk in their lungs a few days after birth. I'm just grateful it happened while we were in the hospital. Christopher got back just as the last nurse left. He was shocked about what happened and that they still hadn't given me my pain medication. Apparently they gave it to the woman in room 15....I was in room 14. She said that was okay though because the lady in room 15 also hadn't had her pain medication. yeah, I was ready to go home. 🙈
My parents sent these. Aren't they beautiful!
This little outfit has been on Kallie's doll ever since Zack grew out of it. It was so weird to see Nick in it.
After school the kids came to say hello to us. We had hoped to be home, but with the nurse staff overwhelmed, we hadn't been released yet - even though we had begged. It was fun to have the kids come and see us again. Poor Andrew had to wait outside again.
Look how little he is in his carseat!
Finally we were heading home! We were told we'd be released by 2pm, but it was almost 7pm before we got our papers. It was still 5 days earlier than any other baby...and I was so ready to go home.
Poor Andrew still wasn't feeling well. This was the sight we were greeted with....oh Andrew.
First holds at home!!!
Finally a baby in this bassinet that's been in our room for 3 months. Heaven.
Nicholas Wilts - Meeting the Family
To say our kids were excited about meeting their new baby brother is the understatement of the century! They begged and pleaded not to go to school, but I wouldn't do that to Christopher's parents. The hospital had very strict visitor rules. Partners from 10am-9pm and everyone else 3pm - 5pm then 7pm -8pm. No one is allowed to stay overnight unless you can get a private room (only 4 available and first come first served..and partners only), and only two people visiting at a time - including partners.
Since grandparents couldn't come see Nick until 3pm and kids needed to be picked up at 3:30, Christopher met his parents outside and traded spots with them. They came to visit while Chris got the kids.
Holy cow we have FIVE kids! Poor Andrew wasn't feeling well, and actually came home from school early. He came in just for the picture and to see the baby for a moment, then Grandpa took him back outside. Poor kid wouldn't get to hold Nick for a few days.

And they were so amazing to bring me this cute candy bouquet! I was starving so I downed a few of those snickers and my favorite pregnancy craving - Baby Bell Cheese! Yum! It was so nice to have an hour or so where they could hold this sweet baby!
While Chris was picking up kids I was moved into a real room. Thankfully they had a private room available (most recover in an open ward - 8 beds with just a curtain - like the room I'm waiting in above) When Christopher got to the hospital his parents had to leave - the 2 person rule. Since all my kids were minors and had to be accompanied by an adult, they let Chris bring all four in for just a few minutes.
Kallie had called "first hold" when we told the kids we were pregnant. She was absolutely glowing and the first one in the door. It was so sweet.

My oldest and youngest together
Finally a big brother!!!
Zack was fascinated how little Nick was. It was so cute having him point out how little his fingers, nose, and face were.
These two were fascinated by this new little boy. They couldn't stop looking at him.
My two "little" boys
Once Grandpa and Grandma left with the kids I was so tired....and STARVING! Chris had brought me back some food from home, but having a baby is hard work and I was so hungry! Chris played with Nicholas while I devoured my amazing five star dinner.
Yeah, just kidding. This was my dinner. It wasn't hot, it wasn't horrible, it was nothing like my first meal after my other babies. I was so shocked I had to take a picture of it.
After dinner we discovered we wouldn't have the best nurse care. Thank goodness Christopher was staying with me. If not I don't know how I would've made it through the night. You would push the nurse button and no one would come. Chris refilled my water, got a nurse to get my pain meds, and had to track down someone to help me get up. I'm sure it isn't always like this. We found out the next morning that the Labor and Delivery ward was at full capacities and they had to borrow our nurses. So our 18 bed recovery area was being watched over by one nurse.
But how sweet is this sight? I couldn't stop looking at him. Day one in the books - and it was such a great one.
