Amish Country!

Amish country was incredibly beautiful.  Just driving around I couldn’t stop taking pictures.  The colors are so vibrant and fresh.  Everywhere you like was just like a postcard.

Every place you looked you saw horses and buggies.  All the stores had horse tie ups in front.  It was pretty awesome.

Our first stop was to little Switzerland.  The worlds biggest cuckoo clock was too big a draw to miss out on.  It was adorable.  It would go off every thirty minutes and play for two minutes with little people dancing around.  It reminded me of the cuckoo clocks in Ahma and Ahba’s house.  The kids had never seen a cuckoo clock so it was great to set their expectations high.

Andrew and Zack made quite the scene dancing along with all the music.  In my humble opinion they really stole the show!

If we weren’t moving to England I would have bought this for Zack and Andrew right then and there.  It was the cutest little diggers.  It was hard to get them off!  As we were walking away an adult who was watching the boys dig got on there and gave it a try.  I totally should have bought one!

I should back up and explain how we found this random pumpkin patch.  As we were driving to an official Amish cheese factory, we saw aa place where you can buy pumpkins and pet animals for free.  It was too good a deal to pass up.  We parked and decided this was better than any cheese factory.  This little pumpkin patch started from an Amish woman who was selling her homemade fried pies on the side of the road.  It began such a draw it just grew and grew.  I loved how they took care of their animals and let them roam without being in cages.  It was awesome.

These huge work horses, who are now retired, were there for houseback riding.  Kallie HAD to ride the horse.  Andrew, of course, got on the biggest one.  They were glowing the whole entire time.  It made my mom heart smile.

They had baby bunnies, chickens, and more chickens for sell.  You could just pick them up and pet them.  Everything was on the honor system too.  We bought chestnuts from a road side stand with just a money box left out.  It was pretty awesome.

After the petting barn we decided we should get some pumpkins.  They take you out to the pumpkin fields with 13-14 year old boys driving this whole team of horses.  It was very impressive.

Zack had the hardest time picking out a pumpkin.  He wanted a big one, but then he wanted one he could carry, it was so hard.  After pumpkin #6 or 7 he finally found the perfect pumpkin.

We ended up staying there much longer than we had planned, so after we had to get right on the road to head home.  All in all our rained out hurricane Matthew weekend turned out to be pretty awesome.
