I honestly don’t know how Grandma does it all. This year, she decided she was going to make the Pop-Tarts from scratch instead of buying them—who even thinks of doing that?! Thankfully, she realized just how many Pop-Tarts were needed for 30 gingerbread houses and quickly ditched that idea. As we were setting up, the kids were practically drooling, watching all the candy get laid out on the tables. Nick was incredibly proud of his gingerbread house and was absolutely thrilled when he took home 2nd place (or maybe it was 3rd, but who’s counting?).
It’s interesting to see how priorities change as the kids get older. Ben stuck to using only the candy he actually wanted to eat later. Andrew kept it simple and even dubbed his creation a “smoking house.” Nick and Xander, on the other hand, went all out, piling on as much candy and frosting as they possibly could! Nick had a clear vision for his house and was determined to incorporate one of Papa’s homemade ice cream cones into the design.
