Christopher turned 34 this month. We enjoy celebrating birthdays so we made a weekend out of it. We had a few little friends over so we ended up taking two cars down to the soccer games. Our picnic was rained out, but the kids couldn’t have been happier since then they got to play in the rain! Zack loved it! Some kids at the playground made a comment that it “smelled weird”…the rain…smelled weird. I told Chris what they said and he was seriously heartbroken that we live in a place where kids don’t know what rain smells like.
Zack discovered how fun bridges are. He ran back and forth on this thing. I finally had to pull him off when it got wet because he kept falling down! He was so mad at me! I think he thought it was my fault he was falling. It really started coming down so we loaded up the little kids in one car and headed home…and the big kids went in the other car to the second soccer game (that got rained out and cancelled). Crazy day!
After a crazy morning and afternoon I kidnapped Christopher to celebrate his birthday. Our amazing friends took our kids and we were off! I had him pick option 1 or 2…and in true Christopher fashion he made his own box labeled 1.5. He’s such a stinker. I gave him both papers that only told him how to dress and he picked one. After him begging and pleading to now where we were going I finally told him he chose the paper that went with going to Lowes and buying trees for the backyard (he chose the ‘dress comfy” paper). I must have played it up really well because he was a little upset with me….he thought we were really going to plant trees for his birthday. It worked out nicely for me that we had to drive in the direction of Lowes for our first stop.
Much to Christopher’s delight we passed Lowes and kept driving. When we arrived at the restaurant, I was a little surprised to realize I had mixed up my restaurants. The one I thought I was taking Christopher to had a hot and spicy chili challenge. The one I actually took Christopher to was not that one…but it was amazing nonetheless. It actually had a real tree growing in the middle of the restaurant! Lots of famous people (well, I think they were famous…they had their picture on the wall…so one would guess they were famous).
Stop two on the kidnapping trip was going to Bed Bath and Beyond. Christopher did this to his favorite pillow one night in his sleep. I’m not really surprised…we’ve had these pillows for 12 years.
Every night since that fateful night in November, I’ve heard about how much he misses his pillow. I’ve bought him new pillows…but none of them are ever as good as that poor pillow he shoved his hand threw. He actually has had this pillow, still in the pillow case, in the corner of the room with hopes that I could fix it. Did you see the picture above?! It was hopeless.
I thought this was going to be a quick trip. Boy, was I wrong! It took almost an hour! We had to read every label, compare thread count, down fillings, and other things I didn’t even know you could compare. Christopher would be heartbroken to know the pillows I bought 12 years ago were purchase simply because they were on clearance.
I’m happy to report Christopher now has a new, fabulous pillow…and he can finally sleep peacefully at night.
Our night kind of took a nosedive after that…thanks Siri. I got out the maps to find directions to our next secret location…and Siri blurted out where we were going. Gravity Park is a big trampoline park and on Saturday nights they turn off the lights and only light it up with lasers (how cool is that for an optics physicist). He wouldn’t go without the kids. Party pooper. So instead we went to the store to pick up things for his dinner the next night and donuts for breakfast. Then we went and saw Thor. That was actually a pretty good movie.
The next morning while Christopher and the kids slept in, Zack and I got busy making Christopher’s birthday cake and getting his dinner started. This little man is such a great helper.
but baking is really tiring so we grabbed a doughnut and a blanket and cuddled on the couch and took pictures. Isn’t he the cutest!
Finally help started to wake up and Kallie got busy writing 34 words that describe Christopher to us. Then we hung them everywhere. The kids came up with some funny words like furry, super tall, mathematical, hairy, big, and some others I can’t think of right now.
His theme was crazy, mad, smart professor. See the resemblance?
After his breakfast (well, second breakfast….his first was an ice cream shake with a doughnut…we are just so healthy sometimes) he took a much needed nap (he had been up for almost 2 hours!) then we headed to church.
For dinner we had some friends over to celebrate Christopher and his awesomeness.
Zack got a hold of my camera and I have about 103 pictures that he took.
After dinner and cleaning up some broken glass Christopher did his treasure hunt that his awesome mom wrote up. He had to compete with the kids for finding the clues.
These crazy people. Can’t trust them with a can of cool whip!
At this point Christopher was starting to make fun of me for taking so many pictures. I actually think I didn’t take enough!
If I had stopped sooner I wouldn’t have gotten this amazing shot of Kallie in her cool glasses with our yummy flan.
For Christopher’s birthday he got to set up our new trampoline! (Also known as “mom’s sanity saver’') Happy birthday to my amazing husband!
