Soda Canyon Hike, Sun Palace, Square Tower House (Mesa Verde)

After seeing Cliff Palace, we couldn’t get enough — we just wanted to see more! Steve, Megan, Kat, Nate, and the kids all headed out to explore the Soda Canyon Trail, which offered incredible overlooks (and plenty of dodging cacti while trying not to have a heart attack every time Xander got too close to the edge of the path).

At one point, both Channing and Steve crossed the safety barrier — one to heroically rescue Xander’s water bottle, and the other for an epic “cool guy” photo moment. I’ll let the pictures tell you who was who!

Afterward, we loaded back into our cars to finish the Mesa Top Loop, stopping at Sun Temple and Square Tower House. It blows my mind that these structures were built so long ago — and they’re still standing! The craftsmanship and ingenuity are just incredible.

By the end, the kids were hot, tired, and ready to head back. We made the hour-plus drive to the cabin, where Grandma and Papa were waiting with a delicious dinner. The evening was filled with fishing, swimming, card games, and more exploring — the perfect end to an unforgettable day.
